R

We know winter can be tough on skin, which is why the beauty experts at Lamazuna have shared their secrets on the perfect zero-waste beauty routine.

Do you dream of having beautiful skin all year round? This is no easy feat, especially when you consider all the potentially damaging elements your skin is exposed to every day. And yet there are some very simple things you can do to care for your skin and help keep it in tip-top condition. Read on, and learn how to adopt an effective, zero-waste beauty routine!

When thinking about the products to include in your beauty routine, start by asking yourself a few questions. What are the key steps in a good beauty routine? What is your skin type? What products are suited to your skin? And last, but definitely not least, what is the environmental impact of your beauty products?

Here are our top tips for a simple and effective zero-waste beauty routine.

WHAT PRODUCTS SHOULD YOU BE USING?

A few basic skincare rules:

Your lifestyle can have a big effect on your skin. Stress, pollution, fatigue, UV rays... They can all damage and weaken your skin. But the good news is that by looking after your skin every day, you can help it stand up to everything it has to deal with!

Rule no. 1: Always use products that suit your skin type. For example, oily skin does not have the same needs as dry skin, so it doesn't need the same products either!

Rule no. 2: If you want to enjoy healthy skin, it's important to cleanse your face once or twice a day. This will remove any excess sebum, helping to prevent blemishes. It goes without saying that you should use a cleanser designed for your skin type, so it won't upset your skin's natural balance. And use warm rather than hot water, as the latter can strip your skin of its natural oils, leaving it drier.

Rule no. 3: To make your skin glow, don't forget to moisturize! All skin types need hydration, even oily skin! When choosing a moisturizer, make sure it works for your skin type, but take into account the season too. You may find you need a richer moisturizer in winter and a lighter one in summer.

It's not just what you put on your skin that matters; it's also what you put inside your body. A balanced, healthy diet will help your skin stay balanced and healthy too. Some of the best foods for healthy skin are fruits and vegetables, which are rich in vitamins and antioxidants. So always try to eat your five a day – and why not six or seven? Drink lots of water too! It's recommended that you drink six to eight glasses a day.

Good hydration makes it easier for your body to flush out toxins. If you don't like drinking plain water, why not drink herbal teas instead identify your skin type.

Our skin is covered with a hydrolipidic film, which is made up essentially of sweat, sebum and water. That may not sound very nice, but in fact, this film is beneficial to the skin, as it helps to protect it against environmental aggressors. The quality of the hydrolipidic film plays an important role in the condition of our skin, and it can affect our skin type too. There are four main skin types: oily, combination, normal and dry. To identify your skin type, you need to examine your skin, and see how it looks and feels.

Different skin types and their characteristics

Let's start with oily skin. The complexion may be dull or shiny. Because oily skin produces too much sebum, it's prone to acne and blackheads. This can lead to uneven skin texture and dilated pores.

If your skin is dry on the cheeks and temples, but tends to be greasy in the T-zone (forehead, nose and chin), then you probably have combination skin.

If your skin is soft, smooth and even, with very few blemishes, it's considered to be normal skin. But you still have to take care of it, of course!

Dry skin suffers from a lack of sebum, which can result in feelings of tightness and redness. This also explains why dry skin is often sensitive.

OUR ESSENTIALS FOR AN ECO-FRIENDLY, NATURAL BEAUTY ROUTINE

Zero-waste make-up removal: the advantages of washable cleansing wipes

They're washable, reusable, and they last an extremely long time. A single Lamazuna cleansing wipe can be reused over 300 times! Yes, you heard right! And because our cleansing wipe sets contain at least 10 washable wipes, that's thousands of disposable cotton pads that you won't be buying – or throwing in the bin!

Solid facial cleansers: for beautifully clean skin

As we said earlier, if you want your skin to be happy and healthy, it needs to be cleansed once or twice a day. Always use a cleansing product that's tailored to your skin type, so it won't damage your skin. At Lamazuna, we worked very hard to develop a range of extra-gentle solid facial cleansers that deeply cleanse your skin. If you use it once or twice a day, it should last for at least two months. Plus, it's easy to take anywhere, so it's perfect for zero-waste travel!

Choosing your solid facial cleanser

Whether you have oily, combination, normal or dry skin, there's a solid facial cleanser that's just right for you! Simply choose the one that matches your skin type. If you have combination or oily skin, we recommend our solid facial cleanser with grapefruit. The astringent properties of grapefruit will help to tighten pores and rid your skin of impurities and excess sebum. Once you've finished cleansing, your skin will feel soft and clear!

If your skin is dry, opt for our facial cleanser with hibiscus. Rich in essential fatty acids, it has a hydrating effect. So if your skin's feeling fragile, it will make it feel better!

Finally, for those of you who have normal skin, we recommend (surprise, surprise) using our facial cleanser for normal skin, to keep it beautiful and healthy.

IN CONCLUSION

There's nothing complicated about looking after your skin. Remember to start by identifying your skin type, then make sure your beauty routine is tailored to your skin's needs.
