Fluffy Toilet Seat Covers, Stuffed Animals And Artex Ranked Top 3 Worst Home Interior Trends Of All Time
From the interior horrors lurking in Granny’s back room to fashion trends that should have stayed in the past, a new poll has revealed the worst British home interior trends of all time.
Humorous data ranks fluffy toilet seat covers, taxidermy and Artex walls the top three ‘interiors faux pas’ of the last 100 years.
A survey of 2,000 people, commissioned by Tapi Carpets & Floors, revealed Brits can’t bear coloured bathroom suites (19%), stone cladding (15%) stencilled quotes (9%) in their homes.
And it wasn’t just poor choice in decoration that came under scrutiny, a ‘groovy’ 25% ranked furnishing your home with a waterbed or lava lamp as the biggest faux pas in home styling.
While the memory of textured wallpaper or those all-colour avocado bathroom suites may offer up a nostalgic smile (and flinch), it would seem Brits have also given the boot to a couple of more recent trends.
Findings by Tapi Carpets & Floors revealed households in the South of the UK have fallen out of love with the grey scale of Mrs Hinch (7%) and are now turning their noses up at shabby chic (7%).
Interestingly, some home fashions were divided by ages – with red and white patterned carpets and lino flooring falling under a more critical eye from the 16 to 24 year-old’s, who were twice as likely to vote against the trend than the over 50s.
Commenting on the research, Brand and Communications Director, Johanna Constantinou said: “Selecting interior products for your home is such a personal choice.
The key to avoiding interior errors is making sure your investment pieces stand the test of time. Carpets and flooring are the foundation of the home and are there for the long haul so it’s important to make an informed decision based on style, functionality and material rather than being swept up in the latest trend.

Of the top ten list of home horrors, the Scots were the most averse to Artex than any other area with Wales ranking taxidermy top.
Two in 10 of those surveyed in Wales claimed the ‘all grey look’ made famous by Mrs Hinch a big no-no – they were the only area to rank her in the top five for worst interior trends.
Open responses saw the more modern ‘all clinical white’ homes called out as a home interior that isn’t practical and hard to maintain.
